Paddles are an integral part of North West Coast daily life. The journeys between villages would be essential for trade. Large cedar canoes would be neccessary for means of travelling the Pacific ocean. When entering another Nations territory, one would raise their paddle in the air to allow the villagers to see the designed paddle and acknowledge who was entering their territory.
